Prof. William Godfred Cantah

Associate Professor of Economics; Head of Department

Prof. William Godfred Cantah is Head of the Department of Data Science and Economic Policy and coordinated the Centre for Data Archiving, Management, Analysis and Advocacy from 2019 to 2026. He is one of the most technically versatile members of the DSEP faculty, combining deep expertise in macroeconomics and monetary policy with strong practical skills in data architecture, statistical computing and policy modelling.

He has led several major national data initiatives, including the development of a 100-variable macroeconomic database for Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Statistical Service, work on the rebasing of the Consumer Price Index in 2019, and the 2024 Integrated Business Establishment Survey. He has provided analytical support to the African Development Bank and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, and has authored more than thirty peer-reviewed publications covering monetary policy, inflation dynamics, financial stability and fiscal–monetary interactions.
